Compliance Engineer - Technical Writer

Reporting to the Vice President, Engineering, this role is responsible for creating procedures and guidelines to ensure that governmental and industry regulations are met for both domestic and international markets. Working with Engineering, Marketing and Sales the Compliance Engineer develops, updates and coordinates product information between departments educating on new or revised regulations that may be relevant to product specifications and/or customer warrantee issues. Leads the development of product manuals, spec sheets and service bulletins.

Principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Researching product regulatory requirements, by state and/or country, to insure manufacturing compliance.
  • Responsible for regulatory filings.
  • Determine the needs of end users for technical documentation.
  • Work with technical staff to make products easier to use and thus need fewer instructions.
  • Organize and write supporting documents for products.
  • Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that increase users’ understanding.
  • Select appropriate medium for message or audience, such as manuals or online videos.
  • Standardize content across platforms and media.
  • Gather usability feedback from customers, designers, and manufacturers.
  • Revise documents as new issues arise.
  • Additional duties as assigned my manager.

Ideal Candidate will possess the following skill/qualities:

  • Proven experience working in a technical writing position
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to write in explanatory and procedural documents for multiple audiences
  • Skilled at prioritization and multi-tasking

Education & Experience:

  • Degreed engineer; mechanical, electrical or industrial
  • 3-5 years’ experience performing similar duties in a capital equipment manufacturing environment
