Accounts Payable Clerk

This position performs accounts payable functions that require a top-quality candidate who is organized and detail oriented with a basic understanding of accounting.

Principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Review all invoices for appropriate documentation and approval prior to payment
  • Process 3-way P.O. matching invoices and file
  • Prioritize invoices according to cash discount potential and payment terms
  • Process check requests
  • Process credit card bills and employee reimbursement and expense reporting
  • Match invoices to checks
  • Respond to all vendor inquiries
  • Reconcile vendor statements, research and correct discrepancies
  • Assist in month end closing and account reconciliations
  • Knowledge of Iowa sales & use tax regulations and ability to research requirements
  • Assist in preparation of 1099’s
  • Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices
  • Assist with other projects as needed

Desired qualifications:

  • Must be able to follow standard filing procedures.
  • Must be detail oriented and reliable.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office a plus.
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis and multi-tasking skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable accounts payable/general ledger systems and procedures, financial chart of accounts.
  • Ability to interact with employees and vendors in a professional manner.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations such as percentages, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division quickly and accurately.
  • Excellent work ethic with minimum supervision and highly organized.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills that convey information effectively with a positive/professional attitude.

Education & Experience:

  • Accounts Payable experience preferred.
  • High school diploma required.
  • College courses in accounting preferred.


  • Part time hourly position
  • 15-20 hours per week
